Initial Exam: A full medical and birth history, a general physical examination, initial lab work consisting of a blood draw and urinalysis. Nutrition, supplementation and other holistic health practices that can benefit your pregnancy and birth preparation will be discussed.
Routine Prenatal Exam: Basic exam to check the mother's and baby's well-being, education regarding the stage of pregnancy and any upcoming standard procedures that may be recommended. Labs are only done at 12 weeks and 28 weeks unless present symptoms guide otherwise. Dr. Joella also does a home visit at 36-37 weeks in order to prepare for the upcoming birth.
Home birth: Dr. Joella comes to your home for the labor and delivery and stays a minimum of two hours after the birth until the mother and baby have been stable for an appropriate amount of time, breastfeeding has been established and the newborn exam has been completed.
Portpartum: Home visits occur approx. 24 hrs after birth, again at 3-5 days after and at the office at 1, 2, 4, and 6 weeks postpartum. Sometimes more visits are completed at home if mom or baby’s condition makes it more appropriate. At these visits mom and baby's physical and emotional well-being are examined, breastfeeding is discussed, along with any newborn care questions.
**Please note that Dr. Joella also incorporates chiropractic, craniosacral and Arvigo therapy into her comprehensive maternity health care . Please see JP Chiropractic for more information regarding this care.
